2015 Season - Week 22

Defence Wins Championships

That was re-confirmed again as Denver’s 2015 version of the “Orange Crush” held the number one offence in the league to just 10 points and the league’s MVP, Cam Newton, to just 18 completions on 41 attempts and three turnovers. Von Miller became the tenth defensive MVP in 50 Super Bowls (how good was it to see all the MVP’s introduced before the game?) The MVP of Super Bowl XLI won his second Super Bowl ring, 9 years later and ties his brother with two rings apiece. Peyton did a class thing and refused to address the speculation about his impending retirement by turning the focus back onto his teammates, oh, and to Budweiser. But he does have a lot to celebrate, despite only being a small reason for Denver’s success this year Manning picks up $2million bonus for the Super Bowl win! You have to feel a bit for the Panthers D, who held Manning to 141 yards passing and Denver to 231 yards of total offence, but Manning and CJ Anderson moved the ball just enough to build on the Denver’s defensive TD. Malik Jackson recovered Cam Newton’s fumble in the end zone after Von Miller’s strip sack and the Broncos were 10-0 up with less than nine minutes gone. That was all they needed to win their third Super Bowl title. BUMSBowl XX Meantime the BUMSBowl was a much closer affair, tied at 10 a piece with just three minutes left when CJ Anderson scored from 2 yards out to make the difference. And so we congratulate the giant-killer John Botten who in his last BUMS game after a twenty year career, becomes the first true outsider (the sixteenth seed) to win the BUMSBowl. The shock victory left his BUMSBowl record at 2-3 while Mark falls to just 2-4 in the big one. But this was not John’s biggest upset ever, just another one for the Bargaineers owner. Who can forget the 2006 season when his team valued at just $4million won the Premiership. John wasn’t the only retiree on Sunday evening, midway through the fourth quarter “Beast Mode” Marshawn Lynch hung up his cleats. Supergames After scooping the most and second highest winnings last year Marcus and Cheryl did the same again, but in reverse. Cheryl won £17.50 after predicting Brandon MacManus would score first, being closest to the half-time score with a 14-14 prediction and for sharing with Marcus the money for the best team. As well as his team scoring 22 points, Marcus predicted Denver would win 23-20 and shared the quarterly picks with his dad after they were the only ones to get one quarter leader correct! So it was a Cooper heist as Cheryl, Marcus (£14) and Chief (£3.50) took the Bowden Brothers, Andy H and Swedish Andi to the cleaners, nice!
